The part other guides skip

Know before you land.

Every country highlights the entry requirements — visa position, arrival cards, travel authorisations, passport validity. Each claim is sourced to the government that issues it, and dated, so you can see it's current rather than copied from a forum three years ago.

And where a country needs an online form — Korea's e-Arrival Card, Thailand's TDAC, Malaysia's MDAC — CSK hands you the real government portal. That matters: search results for these are full of lookalike sites charging $50 for what is a free or $7 official application. The app links only the genuine one.

The South Korea entry requirements in Country Survival Kit: visa-free 90 days, the e-Arrival Card requirement with the official e-arrivalcard.go.kr link and a warning that third-party sites charge $50 for the free application, and the K-ETA waiver with its end date
Recommended Apps for Switzerland in Country Survival Kit — a curated list of local apps, each with an honest verdict: SBB Mobile for national rail and public transport, MeteoSwiss for accurate Alpine weather, Schweizmobil for marked hiking and cycling trails, and Bergfex for skiing

The apps that actually work there

Which apps to trust, and which to skip.

Every country lists the local apps worth having, each with an honest verdict — not a scraped top-ten. The transport app that books the whole network. The local weather app that beats the international ones where it matters. The ride-hailing app that actually operates there, because Uber doesn't run everywhere. And the ones to skip.

Each is a real App Store link, checked — the same discipline as the entry forms. We point you at the genuine app, not a lookalike, so you can install it before you land and have it working the moment you do.

The home-screen companion

Set your country. The widget carries the rest.

Today's exchange rates. The time at home and locally, side by side. One tap to phrases, one tap to the local apps you'll actually use, one tap to the country itself. For a lot of travellers, the widget is where most days start and end.

Quick Reference in Country Survival Kit, showing home and destination clocks side by side with guidance on whether it is a good time to call

Built for considered travellers.

Travel apps assume you'll figure it out on arrival. CSK is built for the other kind of traveller — the one who wants to know what they're walking into.

Each country goes through the same editorial process — researched, verified, and edited before it ships. When you land in Athens, the app already knows which taxi apps actually work there, which local dishes to order first, and what time it's socially acceptable to call home.

Every country reads in an evening. Deep enough to arrive prepared, tight enough that you actually finish it.

Offline by default. One app, not ten. Editorial standards, not filler.

Honest about who it's not for.

Every country carries an "Is it for you?" take — what kind of trip it is, who it suits, and the part nobody else writes: who it won't suit. Albania's own page ends, "if you want a country already organised for you, this is not that yet." Hungary's says it gives you less than its neighbours do.

Free travel sites are paid to sell every destination to everyone. We aren't, so we can tell you when to skip a place, or when to go in a different month. The cut list is as much the product as the content.

The 'Is it for you?' assessment for Albania in Country Survival Kit — an honest paragraph explaining it suits self-drivers comfortable improvising, warns the roads and timetables are unpredictable, and ends: if you want a country already organised for you, this is not that yet

Every country earns its place.

Each entry is researched, verified, and edited before it ships — no thin countries, no filler. Six regions are live today, from Europe to the Americas, and every one is growing. Oceania is next.
